The day before the big rainstorm hit the desert, we headed over to the Blair Valley, which is a high desert area above 2000 feet, which contains a different vegetative structure. The Blair Valley loop includes a short walk out to the "Morteros" or mortars of the Kumayeey peoples in the granite boulders at a rocky pass.
It also contains a 2 mile roundtrip hike along the base of Whale Peak to see some fragile pictographs painted on an overhanging flat granite boulder.
Pictographs
Here you can see the impending storm that forced us to hunker down in the the trailer for 24 hours as it rained non-stop.
